Now Playing Controls in the MacBook Notch
To control now playing from the Mac notch, hover the notch and use the album art, scrubber, pause, and skip controls there. OmniNotch reads the Now Playing session macOS already exposes, so you do not open a separate player. On Macs without a hardware notch, the app draws a floating notch and the same controls still work. The license is one payment, not a subscription.
The problem
Media keys and Control Center work until you are mid-flow. Opening the right player just to skip a track is the interruption.
How it works in the notch
- 01Hover the notch. Move the pointer to the notch. Album art appears in the strip.
- 02Scrub or skip. Drag the scrubber, or use pause and skip, without leaving the window you are in.
- 03Use a floating notch. On a Mac without a hardware notch, OmniNotch draws a floating notch so Now Playing still sits at the top of the screen.
- 04Leave the player closed. The source app can stay in the background. The notch is the control surface.
How to skip tracks without hunting a player
macOS already publishes the current track to Now Playing. OmniNotch shows that session in the notch instead of making you click the app in the Dock. If nothing is playing, the art is empty — that is the session, not a broken widget.
Use cases
Skip a podcast while a document stays focused. Scrub a song during a screen recording without the player covering the frame. Check the track name in a call without Command-Tab.
When another app is the better choice

- Any app that publishes to the macOS Now Playing session. OmniNotch does not ship its own music library.

- No. The notch reads what macOS already exposes locally. No media library is uploaded.
- Do I need a subscription for Now Playing?
- No. Now Playing is part of the one-time OmniNotch license.
- Can I pause without opening Music or Spotify?
- Yes. Pause, skip, and scrub are in the notch while the player stays in the background.
- Why is the album art blank?
- Nothing is in the Now Playing session, or the source app did not attach artwork. Start playback in the source app and hover again.
